The perfect surprise proposal in the desert dunes of Dubai
Many couples just think about a photographer for the wedding, but we are here for many more of your happy moments! In this blog post, I want to show you the photos from a proposal photoshoot in Dubai! Since many people have asked me if it’s worth photographing a marriage proposal, as a photographer, my answer of course is “Absolutely Yes!”, but as you look through the following proposal pictures you will see for yourselves that it is a very precious and intimate moment in a couple’s life that deserves to be captured! Apart from being the beginning of their ‘official’ life together, it is a very tender and fun moment that if you ask any married couple, they will admit that they wish they had a photo of.
There is a very different set of emotions that are captured in a proposal photoshoot when compared to wedding photography. There is a different charm to it. The extra anticipation and excitement in photographing such an emotional moment where one of the subjects will be caught “off guard” requires a different mindset and you don’t have many options in preparing for it. Although the element of surprise is part of every event, big or small, and as a professional photographer with more than 10 years of experience I’m almost always prepared, a proposal is a truly different experience. You don’t know what the reaction will be and it will most probably only last a split second. When Konstantinos originally contacted me to arrange the proposal photoshoot, he of course made it clear that we mustn’t give anything away and make sure we maintain the surprise. We had to act like it would just be a casual pre wedding shoot in the desert dunes at the outskirts of Dubai. We worked alongside one of the best wedding planners in Dubai (The Purple Chair) and we found a spot where the couple was supposed to just exchange a few words since it was their anniversary. The desert in Dubai was the perfect backdrop for a photo session but as with any photoshoot, you need to know where the good spots are. Thankfully, Rasha from the Purple Chair was very helpful and her insights and ideas proved to be invaluable!
As this was my first time doing a photoshoot in the desert, I wanted to make sure I was well prepared. I had my usual combination of two cameras by my side. One with a normal lens and one with more telephoto, so I would be able to capture these special moments without intruding. As I like to do my due diligence before every event that I shoot, in this occasion I knew that I wouldn’t be able to change lenses or move too fast.
Being married myself, I know first-hand how important this day is. How anxious the groom-to-be is and all the feelings that might overwhelm the unexpecting fiancé… but having these photos taken is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to keep these precious moments forever. My honest advice to all men and women out there wondering if they should hire a photographer for their proposal, my answer is a big YES! Please do so, you’ll be able to cherish the beautiful pictures forever!
After this experience, I really look forward to capturing many more proposal moments in Paris, Italy, Greece or anywhere a plane can take me! So please feel free to contact me and let’s capture the memories you will remember for a lifetime!
